Question Question Question Question Question Question Question Question

Please, just a question, Ken. Why are we flying less than 50 or a 100 miles for cargo unless these places are isolated? I also noted the loads are rather fixed? Are we delivering and picking up about the same at each stop? Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Please help, I am confused.

I did not consider the time or distance Pappy. I flew the KPVU to 36U just for grins. It logged a .6 hour flight and brought in around 25k. These are somewhat isolated, small places and maybe should not be a part of the Rainbird Routes.

Not questioning, I just do not know about small cargo operations. Did the airports list air-cargo flights? Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Good question Pappy. Here's the rundown. The Otter heads out of Salt Lake and makes stops in Provo, Heber City, Price, Manti, and Delta; dropping off and taking on cargo for the other towns on the run.

36U
"The Heber Valley General Aviation Airport is the fastest growing airport in Utah with a 20% average annual rate of change. The airport is located just 2 miles from the center of Heber City, paralleling US Hwy 189. Primary use of the airport is by small single and multi-engine planes with minimal use by large multi-engine aircraft or helicopters. The airport was initially constructed in 1947, but numerous reconstructions have expanded and improved the available facilities. Heber Valley Airport is a Class B-2 utility airport with an asphalt runway 75 feet wide and 6900 feet in length. Runway lighting, a rotating beacon,a parallel taxiway, turnarounds and aircraft parking are provided.

Wasatch Aero Services is the local FBO offering fuel sales, tie-down anchors and flight instruction. Hangars consist of 34 privately owned units for small general aviation aircraft and one hangar for larger aircraft, available for short or long term space rental through Wasatch Aero Services. An on-site maintenance facility, operated by Aircrafts men, provides engine and airframe maintenance and repairs."

U69
Duchesne county is serviced by United Parcel Service, Federal Express, Utah-Wyoming Freight Line, Motor Cargo, Consolidated Freightways, and Link Trucking.

Airport Facilities
Duchesne Municipal Airport
Specifications...5,800ft. main paved & lighted runway (n-s)
4,390 ft. graveled runway (e-w)
Rating...............Instrument approach equipment and Unicom
Advisory station ARC B-II

KPUC Price UT

Davis Freight Systems Inc,211 North Carbonville Road,Price,UT,84501,(435)613-7269
DFS Courier,211 North Carbonville Road,Price,UT,84501,(435)613-7269

41U
EliteJets Charter Service out of Manti-ephraim airport.

KDTA
Was not able to come up with a specific cargo hauler out of Delta UT but Landstar Express,Inc. service all sorts of airports with everything from "A 747 to a DC-3"....

Don't know why I looked up all this stuff. After reading about Heber City's airport interest in the rest just landed on me.
Bottom line is it appears to me - correct me if I'm wrong - that Rainbird VA can be the point of the spear in moving cargo where ever theirs a virtual market for it. Caviate; if the net from the route is not covering the expenses then we close the route; at leat that's my thinking.

Just gin up more routes

Good discussion gents.... I also got to thinking after reading this that this is what Brian Nuss does for a living and he is going into some pretty small places although with a smaller bird... Looks like you did your homework and the thought that if it is a negative route we remove it makes a lot of sense... Thanks!!

That is what I am thinking, Jeff. If like Brian, then maybe we need a small twin to do the hauling. Maybe a 200 or a Navajo.
