I don't mind taking a hit when I mess up on a flight, but
I got gigged for putting my flaps down and my gear at speeds higher than
recommended, or so VAFS said...my flight record doesn't indicate that
that is what happened...... I don't mind the giging, but at least let me be
guilty..... Sad Oh well, I had my say, I guess it just surprised me because
I try to follow the rules of flying seriously, I know it's just Sim, but humor me...

Hm..I didn't know VAFS did that (I'm still sans flight sim computer). I guess it begs the question, what does VAFS consider "appropriate" or recommended for various aircraft types?

In order for this to be anywhere near accurate/valid they'd need to have flap/speed schedules loaded for pretty much every transport category aircraft that could be used in airline service. If it's not based on accurate performance data then it's a generic assessment with a high liklihood of not being valid. If that's the case then I wonder if we can just turn it off.

PostSubject: Same problem with recent flight   Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:17 am

I think this is a VASF4 problem. I got dinged for early gear extension which belies the record. According to the recorder I was doing 149 knots when the gear were extended. Maybe a software glitch. See details below:

PASSENGER/CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

Gear were extended beyond 250 knots some damage has occured (-8.25) (0.05)
Your flight arrived on time (0) (0)

A possibility here: now, I don't know what the Airbus manual says (because I don't have one), but the B752 manual's recommendations for an ILS are to slow to 180 KIAS before intercepting the IAF, and to lower the gear (and extend remaining flaps per schedule) only after intercepting the G/S. Perhaps you got gigged for an overspeed gear deployment because you extended the gear earlier than G/S intercept; even though you were below Vle, perhaps the program is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference. OTOH, a Vle at 149 KIAS is pretty late into the approach, and maybe the program was gigging you for that, but has an inadequate error reporting library.
