PostSubject: some issues with first try.   Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:44 am

Hi,

I am very exited by this product, but so far I am strugling to make it work.
I have used VoxATC extensively so I know how to setup voice recognition and stuff. I got bored of VoxATC because of the limitation to fly the flight path only. If MCE does what is says on the tin, it should be a much better product

So I installed MCE, no problem so far

I only fly GA airplanes. I tried under the carenedo cesna 182
I say 'open GPS', cool the GPS appears!! great!
I say 'close GPS', cool it disapear.. so everything seems to be working

I reach the MCE User interface

(1) First frustration: no coordinated checklist for my plane. (or the default 172 from MSFT). I would love to have one, I know it is not realistic, but as someone planning to learn to fly, it would be like having an instructor.
If people dont like it they can always uncheck it, so please add that functionality.

(2) Second frustration: I dont seem to be able to uncheck the 'call-out and monitoring' option, this is very anoying, especially because the doc says it is CPU intensive and I really dont want it.

I assigned the buton-1 of my saitek proflight for ATC comunication and go back t[ FSX

(3) Third frustration ATC doesn't seem to work, or I am missing something
I setup my COM-1 to ground, the ATC menu pops up with 8 options proposed, like 'request taxi - fly straight ahead'.
I tried to say it.. nothing..(or more exactly a small DING from the voice recognition software from Vista, meaning I dont get you), and yes I was pressing the button-1

Where things gets nasty is that if u are trying to reach the MCE menu, which is hidden in full screen (which is good), you go into a windowed mode, FSX pauses as usual, but the voice recognition is still on, so if you say anything then, vista tries to execute .. like I said 'OPEN ATC', MS words suddenly opens and loads the ATC help file... Or sometime a small box with multiple choices appears in the middle of FS running from vista. Basically everything became very messy.

I am sure this is because I didnot know what to say to the ATC, What would be great is a step by step idiot proof example like:

START WITH A CESNA CARAVAN AT KPWT
Say 'open radiostak'
you should see the stack opening
Say '..'
etc
until you confirm clearance to go..

That would be super helpfull.
I am sure it is a great product, but after trying for 1 hour to get any understanding from the ATC I got very frustrated.
Please help!

Etienne

Hi etien,

First, it appears that you are running MCE with speech engine in shared mode (which is only suitable for running other speech add-ons simultaneously).

To change that.
Start FSX, select default B737 or any aircraft for which "crew coordination" is enabled.
Start MCE, enable "Real cockpit crew coordination"
Click the Command tab of the UI
Make sure "Exclusive access to Reconizer" is switched ON
Close MCE
Make sure the Vista speech interface is closed.

The next time you start MCE, Vista integrated recognition will no longer come in the way.

For the rest, you may want to get in touch with support, i am sure they will help, even if you havn't bought the product.

ATC works great for me, after some practice, and i think many people went throgh that kind of frustrating phase.

Hope this helps

Thanks condor, will try.

When the FSX ATC box is open, am I right to assume that I can litteraly say what I read in the options 1,2,...8 etc? or is there something more to say, like my callsign first?
Mind spelling out an example? I am not a pilot so I am probably missing something obvious.

also, if one uncheck the 5 boxes, can we assume that nothing is running in the background and that the fps is minimal then?

Hi etien... experiment with the speed and cpu sliders. They do make a big difference with voice recognition. After I got mine tuned in, I have only a few unrecognized phrases. Also, read the documentation for ATC. It helps to follow the guidlines listed there. It is very easy to make your own checklists or modify the existing ones. They are simple text files and usually can be found in c:\Program Files\Multi Crew Experience\chklists, depending on where you installed it.
