PostSubject: Some findings, some problems, some cheers   Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:37 pm

Let's do the cheers first *g*: MCE is the most complete speech recognition program for FSX and it works remarkably well.

Here are my problems: While my co and the cabin crew obey to my commands in 99.9% of all times, I have yet to find a way to make ATC listen to me. Not a single time I was able to say something they understood, despite the fact that I have read the manual about ATC a dozen times. A step by step tutorial for a saved flight would be perfect (or two, one for VFR and one for IFR). I bought MCE mainly for ATC - now don't let me down :-)

My second problem is that sometimes the crew is pretty slow to react. How could I fix this? Can't be my system, it's about the best you can buy nowadays.

And the findings: I hated the standard voice, so I bought additional voices from AT&T. These voices show up in the dropdown menu for the Copilot, but only there. I am on Vista 64, and the second and third entry remain greyed out. I would have different voices for all three slots, they aren't recognized, though.

It would be nice if you could help me with the points mentioned.

I hate to give bad new Sad

Are you sure the voices you bought are compatible with 64 Bit platforms?

I know for sure the "Cepstral voices" are.

Also heard stories of people trying to use AT&T voices bought with VoxATC on 64 Bit Vista, without success.

Could you give me a link to the Cepstral voices? I have the AT&T voices working in Vista64, but, as I wrote, only in the first slot for the copilot.

Here it is.

http://www.cepstral.com/cgi-bin/downloads?type=1124808311

Because they have demo versions for all voices, i suggest you don't buy until you have installed and tried.

As for the ATC interaction not happening, here are a few tips.

Make sure you assign, and use the same joystick button when transmitting.
When you press the joystick button, you should hear a brief radio noise, that's an indication that you are pressing the right button. You should not talk before hearing the noise, and must hold the button down throughout your transmission. And only release when done.

Of course you can accomplish the above with the keyboard.

There are some ATC strings for which there is no need to press a joystick button, and they are those surrounded by square brackets. "[ 3 - Turn On Progressive Taxi]" is one of them.
Because in this case, you are not transmitting anything to ATC, you just read the string, and it will be selected.

Cheers,

Those who prefer British accents, might like "Daniel" from Scansoft Realspeak.
