PostSubject: MCE to get better & better   Wed May 06, 2009 12:00 pm

During my trial period with MCE, I had a number of issues that support has been marvelous in helping resolve. Also, I have expressed a desire for several improvements due to the lack of some processes that were not available on different aircraft. So I want to share some of the emails between support and myself because these developers listen and are working on their product to improve it.

My email:

Another question:
Some add-on aircraft does not load the copilot. Is there a programming method that could make this marvelous program add a copilot? For example, a copilot for the Mid-Atlantic DC3 and the B25.
I can get the copilot with the PMDG 737 series except that MCP functions are not changed even though the copilot acknowledges the instructon and sounds indicate that change are being made. For example, setting altitude, CP responds and performs the action but the display does not change. That's OK since I can change the display myself.

Maybe it would be too diffulcult to program for all the add-ons out there. Maybe basic functions if not all of them could be transferred into a file for a specific plane.

Just hoping.
Jim

Support's response:
As for the DC3 and B25, i reckon we should enable co-pilot.
It is disabled, because when the software sees a piston engine aircraft loading it assumes it is a co-pilot free aircraft. That looks like an oversight, and we ought to correct that at least for these 2 aircraft.
Regards,

The FS++ team

My email:
I hope that you consider having an option for MCE to use or disable the FO for all aircraft (if possible) since many of my addons are commercial type aircraft requiring two pilots, some being turbos as well as piston and jet powered.

Support:
Right now, any aircraft that requires a co-pilot in real world, including the single engine Cessna Caravan, should have the co-pilot available.

We have already enabled the DC3 (that was an oversight). The latest package should be available within a week.
Should you come across an aircraft that fails to load co-pilot when it should, just let us know.
We are going to implement some sort of "cheat mode" for the few folks eager to enable FO on all aircraft.
Regards,

The FS++ team

I'm looking forward to these improvements.

The newest download contains the "cheat" to allow a co-pilot with any aircraft, and it works (so far).
Here is the response from FS++:

To force co-pilot on all aircraft, proceed as follows:

Find the file "mce.ini" at the following path

On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Application Data\Multi Crew Experience\mce.ini (you need to enable hidden files and folders to find it)

Open the file using notepad

Change the following line

ForceCopilot=0 (Found just below [OPTIONS])

to

ForceCopilot=1

Save the file

From now on, co-pilot will be available on all aircraft.

Please note that, since we have made that possible, we did not check all the possible operations that can be done on a single aircraft. But as time permits, we will address any issue that may arise.

Regards,

The FS++ team

Edit: In fact to get the latest mce.ini you would have had to run the application wizard again.

Or one can add the line as I did.
Just tried it using the MAAM DC3 and it was fantastick. I asked the CP to adjust the rudder -5 degrees and it was performed perfectly. If you had the TQ window open you would see the handle rotating to set the rudder as requested. Gear also was raised by the CP and "he" handled ATC without a hitch. I haven't checked all functions as of yet, but will let the support team know if I find any issues that I can't resolve. (I think I already have one, but will post that after further testing.)
Right now I am estatic with MCE.

Do you know when the new release will be? I am really waiting for it - but they didn't contact me back after I reported my findings with the beta they sent me :-(
