PostSubject: Checklist "hangs"   Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:05 pm

I have created a custom checklist for my BAe 146-200 simpit. But I am finding some "anomalys" consistently cropping up. This is a detaled set of checks .... more like the "real thing" as the copilot and I step through the setup of the full pit in "real time" from overhead to avionics and so on.

I have done the training, particularly on the checklist part, a number of times. I have played with the speed of the recognition in both Windopws XP SAPI as well as the in-the-program slider.

I am finding that the list is "hanging" into sort of an endless loop when it does not understand what I am saying on a particular item. BUT this is not happening on EVERY item that it does not understand the first time. Then shortly after the copilot keeps telling me he can't understand me, the MCE program crashes and generates a "MCE needs to close message"....etc.

I can then re-start MCE in the same fs2004 swession, and I can re-start the same checklist and it hangs at the same point every time. The interesting thing is that the term it is not understanding might have already been used 3 to 10 times previously in the same part of the checklist. I have checked the typing and there are no obvious errors in the syntax.

Sometimes this is hanging on the simple and common word "ON". It is that simple a word baffeling the copilot! But he has responded correctly to "on" many times already in the checklist. Another word that kills him is "AUTO".....but he'll get "AUTOMATIC". "OK" seems to be another killer.

Once this hangs, I can't suspend the checklist. The copilot ignores me on that request. If I say "repeat" he just repeats the item that he is not getting a response to that he understands. Over and over. I can still say "resume checklist" and he'll repeat that phrase. And then if I say "repeat" he'll say the problematic checklist item again. But won't cancel the checklist. If I say "skip this" he'll SAY he is skipping it......... but he doesn't. If I then say "repeat" or "continue checklist" he says tha same item that it already hung on.

In the midst of all this, I can STILL issue simulator commands like "look left" or "zoom in" and it responds instantly.

But if I try to continue with the checklist........ no joy.

Then usually shortly thereafter....... MCE crashes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

best,

I've had the same problems, but after addressing them with the FS++ support guys, they've fixed most of them in my case. I use the Wilco Airbus 320 or PMDG 737 mostly. There are still a few replies that "he" simply refuses to understand. Funny, it varies from plane to plane. In one he may accept the same reply that he will reject in another. Don't forget, he tries to verify if you giving the right answer, too. If he asks for "Spoilers" and the answer should be RETRACTED and you answer RETRACTED when thay are actually deployed, then you will be scolded for that answer.

I also get a lot of this situation:
Let's say the checklist item is "TAXI LIGHTS" and the reply should be "AS REQUIRED".

A lot of times I'll say "As Required" then he'll come back with... "Jim, did you say... as required"?

At this point, I know he recognized what my answer was, since he repeated it for me, but for whatever reason he didn't accept it.

MCE guys recently changed the checklist function to force the copilot to finally accept whatever answer you give after a few tries. Have you noticed that?

fleahead,

Thanks for the info. The FS++ folks are are working with me also.... and they are AMAZING in their responsivness. I am running a simpit loosely based on the BAe 146-200. I fly that same aircarft about 99% of the time. The model is the Jon Murchison one and the panel is by Mathias Liebrecht.

I just started using MCE , so I didn't have the experience "before" to compare to. Sorry.

As far as the copilot actually checking the status of the stuff in the sim........ I run a simpit and a lot of what I am doing is modeled outside the normal FSUIPC offset variables. I'm just trying to get him to acknowledge stuff. The phrase "As required" seems to be a real problem; I had that one too. And yes, he asks me if I said "As Required" and then if I say Yes, or OK or As required, or Afffirmative or most anything, he says he doesn't undersand me. Then sometimes he then says the correct respons is "As Required". Laughing Laughing Laughing

Sometimes he will go through the checklist getting "on" as an answer and understanding it 10 to 15 times. Then suddenly he just WILL NOT accept "on". Weird.

I have full faith that we will get this working fine. I'm patient. Years ago in a galaxy far, far away (1980s) I wrote some commerical code...... so I have a vague understanding of the complexity of what they are doing.

best,

Well... once again the FS++ folks come through quickly.

What they NEEDED was an IQ test for ME before I purchased the software! Rolling Eyes

One of the hangs (and the major one) was that I made a mistake in my custom checklist. The formatting of that on a printout was such that I read and re-read that listing over and over but continued to miss what should have been an OBVIOUS miatake.

Between the statement the copilot reads and the expected response there NEEDS to be a "--" in there for the program to work correctly. Well........ I missed it on that one single line out of about 100 + lines. Result.... eventual full crash of the program.

They have now identified this problem (which in the end is ME Embarassed ) and will be adding code revisions to prevent such a situation from occuring and crashing the program.

So if you are having similar problems of some sort, get SOMEONE ELSE to look at your custom checklist file until the new version is available.

best,
