PostSubject: LOC/ILS Problem Wilco A320   Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:44 am

Gents;

Here's the problem: The AP will not intercept the LOC. I have programmed the FMGC and have inserted the landing runway with STAR and TRANS but the AP flies right by the LOC. I have hit the LOC button when given an intercept heading by ATC and have previously activated "approach phase" but still no intercept.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for any advice.

Bill,

I had it happen in FSX the other day. I "think" the problem might have been that the FSX database may have not had the right freq for the ILS/LOC. Not sure if my problem was related to yours. I'll be giving it another go this weekend.

Bill: If you would give me where, what, how and frequency I'd be glad to check it out. As Don says, could be a wrong frequency in the DB. I have had intermitent "Dumbness" affraid with the FMCG in the WIlco Airplane as well.

Anyway, details and I'll check it out.

Guys;

I really think it is operator error because the ILS freq shows up in the DB for selection and the freq checks out with the approach plate. It's the ILS 01L, 110.2, ICUA at KLAS. Somehow the ILS doesn't load into the the RAD/NAV area on the FMGC. This is FS9 BTW.
I guess it's back to the manuals. One quick question does the FD need to be deselected prior? I just remembered reading something about that.....or maybe I didn't Question

Thanks again!

OK.....first, no, the FD doesn't need changing at all.

Just a tip....which MIGHT explain the problem. In this FMC, programming in NOT the same as it is in the boing-boings........

The steps are.........POD, RWY, SID.....Now the difference....The STAR, ILS, RWY. THEN you fill in the points between the end of the SID and the bginiing of the STAR.

See if that helps.

Bill,
I'm looking at the Map in fs9, KLAS, and it shows an ILS for R25L and 25R, only. R01l and 01R shows NO ILS.
I think that would be the problem.

Also, Bill, When ATC assigns your APP, make sure you select it in your FMS. I'm not sure but it seems like I had an ILS available in FMS once, that was not available. The fs9 Map will tell you what is really available.
Hope this helps.

Bill,
Something else I noticed, in your your very first discription. Selec LOC when you make your first turn to Final and don"t activate APP until LOC is captured.

Thanks guys....it may have been a combination of things but I manually entered the Rwy 25L ILS freq and crs into the RAD/NAV page and all was well. I must have assumed it was entered automatically when I selected the STAR/ILS/RWY on the FMGC on previous attempts. I may have hit the appch button before intercepting the LOC as well but it worked fine this time. I'm not sure about the ILS 01L appch....it shows in my DB but I didn't check the FS map. I guess I need to be sure to do that.

I gotta tell ya......I wish I had thought about staying with the Boeings instead of switching to the Bus. So many things just don't feel intuitive. Of course, it could be me....naaaah Very Happy (any chance of bringing the Guppy out of retirement?)

BTW, the autoland put me in the appch lights about 200' short of the rwy. Maybe a Wilco bug? More testing needed I guess.

Thanks for all of your help, guys. It is much appreciated. Hopefully, I'll get the hang of this thing soon.

Bill,
I was a Boeing Guy, too. But I can assure you, once you get to know the A320 it is really nice. Taxi's very well and turns soooo smooth. You will also get use to speeds and flaps on approach and she'll land like a dream.

Dick Rea

Good Luck and anything I can do to help you, let me know.

Bill,
I also notice you are from West Michigan. I'm from Texas...that might have something to do with it.........

If your airport has a r/w ILS that doesn't show up in FS (either omitted by an oversight, or more often commissioned after FS9 was produced), it can be added with AFCAD, which can be obtained from flightsim.com or other sources. The ILS Rwy 01L at KLAS is one I have added this way.

Some of FS9's ILSs have problems that make them difficult to use, or dangerous to fly, due to misaligned or improperly positioned navaids. AFCAD can also be used to fix these problems.

Dave,

Great info..I didn't realize AFCAD could be used to correct these types of problems. But, then again I've never used AFCAD. Very Happy

Mike,

Actually I had previously added all new AFCADS to FS9 for all of Midcon's destinations before my hiatus. I think it really adds to the realism and provides enough (and accurate) gate parking for AI aircraft. I guess that's why I didn't check the FS9 map to see if the KLAS 01L ILS was there. There are many afcads out for the same airport so I pretty much looked at the number of downloads to determine the best or at least most popular one to install.

The Wilco/FT 'Bus still has me on the learning curve but I'm slowly getting there.
